Immediately, the public eye has turned to Nero. Many are speculating that the Emperor poisoned Britannicus, his potential rival.
Sententia Publicus's sources say the poisoning's first attempt was unsuccessful, and a second assassination attempt by his tutors also failed. At the fatal dinner Britannicus attempted to distance himself from Nero by sitting at different tables, but after receiving water to cool his hot drink, Britannicus went into convulsions and died shortly afterwards.
After what was obviously murder by poison, we certainly can't fault Roman's for blaming Nero. Sententia Publicus will stop short of accusing our young emperor of murder, but his silence over this issue certainly isn't doing him any favors.
