Nero had his long time friend, and Poppaea’s husband, reassigned from duties within central Rome to the position of Governor of the far away province of Lusitania. Since then Poppaea has been seen with Emperor Nero on many public occasions; our sources also tell us she also spends a considerable amount of private time with Nero as well.
Despite the fact that the citizens of Rome are still showing public discontent and anger over Nero’s divorce from Octavia, Nero defies public opinion and exerts his authority by marrying Poppaea a mere twelve days after his divorce from his previous wife. Poppaea’s official coronation is scheduled to take place next week.
Sources close to Octavia state she is frantic, dismayed, and overall “an emotional wreck;” however, given the circumstances sources quote her as stating that, ‘she is grateful to have the rest of her life in front of her.’
